Fall Crew Program
Cost is $500.00
With the Fall program the competitive focus shifts from Sprint Racing to Head Races. In past years, RCC has competed at the Head of the Occoquan, The Head of the James, Occoquan Chase and The Occoquan Challenge. The season starts on September 6, 2011 and runs to mid November. Enrollment for this program is open to all students in the Richmond area!
The focus of the fall rowing program will be on learning proper rowing technique. The fall crew season includes land and water training 4 or more days a week for both novice and experienced rowers.
New rowers to RCC may try it out for the first two weeks of the season for $150.00 to be applied to the total fee if they continue! Fall crew is a great opportunity for new rowers to check out the exciting sport of rowing.
By the school calendar, most high schools start their racing season in the spring, but River City Crew starts their crew season in the fall. This fact helps our rowers get to know one another which helps build a closer knit rowing club.
Fall crew novice rowers get their first taste of competition by participating in the Occoquan Challenge and the Head of the James, our "home port" race. Fall season will usually end in early November (this may be extended depending on weather).
Head Race - A head race is a time trial rowing race typically held in the fall or early spring. In this form of racing, competitors race against the clock and the crew with the fastest time is deemed to be the winner. Racing usually takes place in different categories of boat class and abilities. These are races against the clock in which boats start at 10 second increments and row over a 3 - 3.5 mile course.
All programs are coached by Tom O'Rourke who provides rowing instruction geared towards the levels of the individual rowers. Coach O'Rourke is always looking to take on new rowers at the beginning of each season!

NOTE: New rowers to RCC may have a trial period for the first two weeks of the spring or fall season for $150.00 to be applied to the total fee if they continue.
