2013 Head of the James COMPETED IN

Hosted by James River High School, the 7th annual Head of the James Regatta at Robious Landing Park is Richmond area's exclusive head race rowing competition, featuring high school athletes from Richmond, Northern Virginia, Charlottesville and Hampton Roads/Tidewater Area.
The Head of the James is a beautifully scenic head race on the upper James River just north of the City of Richmond. The event is a high school regatta, sponsored by James River High School Crew. The event is located in the 50-acre Robious Landing Park at 3800 James River Road in Midlothian, VA just behind James River High School and Bettie Weaver Elementary School off Robious Road. The site includes parking for cars, picnic shelters, playground, and miles of walking trails.
Officiated by U.S. Rowing, the Head of the James runs from the 3 mile mark west of the 288 Bridge to Robious Landing Park in Midlothian. This is a three-mile race, rowing with the current. It is also a three-mile row up to the starting gates. The race can be viewed along the banks (south side) of the James River in northern Chesterfield County within Robious Landing Park.
The first race begins on Saturday, October 12, 2013, promptly at 8:00 a.m. with boats being sent every 30 seconds. It takes each race just over 20 minutes to reach the finish line. Events will include men's and women's singles (sculls), mixed fours, mixed twos and mixed eights. Faster boats will be first followed by novice boats. Hot seating is not permitted.
