2011 Occoquan Chase COMPETED IN
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2011
On Sunday, October 16, 2011, the race began upriver from Sandy Run at Jacob's Rock. The 3-mile course follows a gently winding path past the launch site, finishing at the first set of overhead powerlines past the grandstand viewing area.
Each athlete/crew that is declared the winner of their division will be awarded the "Champion of the Chase" shirt, and they will be positioned first in their event the following year. The Chase attracts a wide range of competitors, both in age and in skill level. Novice and World Championship level athletes will find the course a challenge since there are no fixed objects (bridges) to navigate by--only buoys.
NOTE TO PARENTS: The race is at Sandy Run Regional Park. Occoquan is a beautiful location for a regatta. All parents, family & friends are encouraged to attend to watch & cheer on their rowers in action with plenty of viewing room along the Occoquan Reservoir. We suggest parents bring a chair, something to read for down time, dress in layers & wear good walking shoes to make your day more enjoyable. Many families send the rowers up in carpools & then spectators come later, as the rowers need to be there very early to unload and rig boats, register, etc. Parents bringing tents & tables, please arrive on the early side! NO PETS & NO ALCOHOL will be permitted.
