Occoquan Regattas at Sandy Run Regional Park
10450 Van Thompson Road, Fairfax Station, VA 22039
Occoquan regattas are conducted from a dedicated rowing facility at Sandy Run Regional Park at 10450 Van Thompson Road Fairfax Station, Virginia 22039.
The park is open to the public for the purpose of education, training, practice, and racing for competitive and recreational sculling and rowing. Only shells and other boats authorized by the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority (NVRPA) may be launched from the docks or shoreline of Sandy Run.
Sandy Run Regional Park (Occoquan) is a beautiful location for a regatta. All parents, family & friends are encouraged to attend to watch & cheer on their rowers in action with plenty of viewing room along the Occoquan Reservoir.
We suggest parents bring a chair, something to read for down time, dress in layers & wear good walking shoes to make your day more enjoyable. Many families send the rowers up in carpools & then spectators come later, as the rowers need to be there very early to unload and rig boats, register, etc. Parents bringing tents & tables, please arrive on the early side! NO PETS & NO ALCOHOL will be permitted.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS by Parents, Spectators & Competitors:
--Where do I park? Parking is very limited at Sandy Run Regional Park and our goal is to give as much space to trailers, car-toppers and trailers (also buses and vans). Parking costs $10.00 dollars for every vehicle that enters the park- please carpool to ensure we have enough space for all athletes.
--Where do I watch the races? ---Sandy Run park (at the bottom of the hill) is reserved for coaches and athetes. They strongly recommend you encourage spectators to go to the grandstands. Their volunteers will be directing all non-athletes to take a free shuttle to the grandstand (finish line).
---Can I put up tents and cook food? They do not allow any cooking via open flame. Also, no alcohol. They will be offering prepared food at the grandstand (Rocklands BBQ). Tent space is available by permission of the ranger onsite and is first come, first serve. Please note, they offer PLENTY of tent space at the finish line. If you want MORE INFORMATION on tent setup, please email them at registrar@headoftheoccoquan.org no later than Friday afternoon.
---Where are the vendors? BBQ Food, Rubini, JL Clothing and other vendors will be at the grandstand (finish line). They will also have results and an announcer at the finish.
---Can I bring my pet to the park? No, please leave your pets at home.
